It’s Time To Be A Bit Delusional
The beginning of one woman’s journey to build her dream life.
Hi. I'm Sam...and honestly? I've reached a point in my life where I just think it's time for me to be delusional.
So here I am. Sitting in a camping chair in my partially finished tiny house. At a $30 folding table, using my almost nine-year-old HP Chromebook that is 100% only functioning by the grace of the universe to write my first official blog post.
Well...for this blog, at least.
I've had a couple in the past. The most significant one that comes to mind was called The Sacred Femininity Blog...when I was just a newly married, young, naïve little Catholic girl who thought she could change the world by comparing the concept of original sin to a drop of food coloring on a paper towel roll.
My, how things can change in a decade.
The woman presenting herself to you now is a far cry from that young bride. I got divorced and questioned my entire belief system surrounding the "truth" of the universe. Moved states. Walked through infertility and pregnancy loss. Lived in a 169-square-foot camper for almost four years before my partner and I recently moved into our partially completed tiny house...that we're now no longer even sure we'll stay in long-term.
But one thing has remained remarkably consistent:
I always find my way back to an empty page.
About a year and a half ago, I finally started writing my first book series. The protagonist is a young woman from Louisiana whose family struggles thrust her into survival mode from a very early age.
So...she begins to write.
First, in a series of journals archiving her many adventures, loves, and losses throughout adolescence. Then, when she finally scrounges up enough money to buy her first laptop, she starts her first blog...
The Emma Archives.
Over time, her blog grows into something far bigger than she ever imagined. It allows her to build the humble but stable life she'd always dreamed of — not only for herself, but for her sister and the community of friends they meet along the way.
Do you see where I'm going with this?
After spending a beautiful, messy, spiritually-fulfilling, and emotional two weeks back home in Louisiana last month, something inside me asked a simple question:
Why can't I do what Emma does?
Are we not living in the age of the internet?
You see, I realized that I had accidentally written the life I wanted for someone else.
But, I think it's time I tried to build it for myself.
So...welcome.
I have absolutely no idea how any of this is going to turn out.
This could be the best choice I’ve ever made…or this blog could get lost in the endless internet archives like my last one.
Either way…I’m happy to be here and grateful that you are too.
Sincerely,
Sam
